One
I’ve been sober for six months. Not because I was an addict, but I was definitely abusing alcohol. I was using it to numb myself so that my depression was less hellish… it didn’t help, but it felt like it was and so I drank. Then I had blood work done and my Dr. told me I had top levels of alcohol present, even 20 plus hours after my last drink. So I quit. I’ve already written about the wonderful world of non-alcoholic beers and spirits I’ve discovered thanks to The Wife and her tireless commitment to making my life wonderful. The dTMS (Deep Brain Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) has put my depression into remission. Going sober is just another part of my work to reclaim my life from the mess that “depressed me” left it in.
Two
One unexpected benefit of the dTMS has been the incredible clarity I now have. Folks who live the day-to-day life of ADHD understand what I mean when I say that I have observed much of my life from inside a fog of half heard conversations, lost items, a total lack of organization or the ability to self regulate time. Some of that is still present and accounted for, but the fog itself is just gone. Without the aid of stimulants, I can think clearly. I’m better organized than I have been in years. I’m able to use the apps on my phone to keep track of all my shit. But the best part of this new clarity is the flood of memories that have emerged from the fog. I have vivid memories of things going back to age five and some from before that. I’ve been comparing notes with The Wife and my memories of our college life together are much more vivid than hers… it was 35 years ago, after all.
Three
You can keep Winter, Spring, and Fall. I’ll take summer over any of them. Summer is the best. Period.
Four
I’ve become addicted to husky accounts on Instagram. I have no interest in owning a husky, way too high maintenance for me, but they are a hoot to watch. The stuff people get up to with their dogs is wild. They straight up have conversations with them. And those speaking mats folks are teaching their dogs to use just make it all even better. Huskies are wild.
Five
Please watch the January 6th Committee Hearings… please, for all of our sakes. Then, when the time comes, vote every one of the bastards who are still working to destroy what we have left of our republic out of office. I don’t hold out much hope for any of them to pay for their crimes, but they are not fit to be in government. The modern day GOP is a crime syndicate built on a massive base of angry, ultra-religious, and poorly educated folks who are happy to send what little money they have off to enrich the elites who pull their strings. Be it their mega church pastors, politicians, or their favorite right-wing nut job like Alex Jones.
