Random Thoughts from Random Writer One I found this meme of a tweet I wrote quite some time ago on Reddit… I think it’s held up well. It’s not the first time something I’ve written has ended up as a meme, but every time I find one, I have the same reaction … “How can…

Friday 5!
One I’ve written about my mental health journey. Specifically, the past five years. Since my Deep Brain Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, which you can read about here and here, they have weaned me off of all meds for depression and ADHD. It’s taken a year to do so. Last week I took the last step down…
Friday 5!
One A sitting President of the United States lost an election and then orchestrated an elaborate scheme to seize control of government and stay in power. Read that again… It sounds like the plot of a novel. I’m sure it probably is. But in this case it happened. In the months preceding the 2020 election,…
Lessons learned over 3 decades in the classroom.
Tomorrow I start year 32 in the classroom. Here’s a list of the lessons I’ve learned over my 3 decades working with teens…
Friday 5!
One This month… July… has been the hottest month on record. Here are some facts pulled from The Google… it’s not like the evidence is hiding folks. It’s all right there for you to see. The question is, what happens next? I ask that because it’s clear that what doesn’t happen is anything to alter…
The Return of the Friday 5!
“Boots!” both women called from their stools before Derric could take another step. Abigail came from the back room, gave a sarcastic curtsy to Derric, then stopped to help the big man pull his boots from his feet.
He just laughed and tossed Ben up in the air a few times before dropping him to the floor and musing his hair. Abigail dragged a stool over to the table for him and then pulled Ben with her as she returned to the back rooms. The boy protested but followed, only to return to the still open door to listen.
“William, coming to your house almost makes me wish I had children!” The big man boomed before dropping to the stool, which creaked in protest.
He looked at the mugs Kev and William held and then called for Abigail. She returned from the back room with a sigh.
“Yes, Uncle?”
He pointed at the mugs. Abigail was only eleven, but she was learning to hold her own against her father’s younger brother.
“I suspect you know where the mead is, Uncle.” With that, she turned on her heal and left, this time closing the door to the back room. Ben let out a loud protest but remained behind the door.
Time to put the new brain to the test.
I style myself a writer, but most of the writing I have is from the time I was insane, or actively fighting to keep my sanity. I suffer from drug resistant Major Depressive Disorder, but I’ve spent the last 14 months in remission, and avoiding actually writing new words for fear that they would not…
Once upon a time, I styled myself a moderate.
Taking great pride and a certain smug superiority because I was non-partisan, I wrote about how I could see the value of both sides of the liberal-conservative political equation. I talked about the solid bedrock that underlay the traditional conservative worldview. I tempered my liberal views with a generous sprinkling of moderation and a conviction…
A fragmented opposition has always been the goal.
Sat down to read, fell asleep, woke up to a massive twitter purge of journalists. Musk’s thin skin is not really the cause, deplatforming opposing voices is. I’m convinced that Musk is the point person in an effort to destroy Twitter’s effectiveness as a vehicle for pro-democracy voices. The authoritarian right has been on the…
“Looking for Sean O’Mallery.”
© J.D. Random November, 2022 “Looking for Sean O’Mallery.” Suddenly, his mind filled with the memory of bells, and he smiled. He didn’t know where he’d heard the bells; it seemed only a fragment of a dream. For the third afternoon in a row, he wandered the park during his lunch break, and for the…
