Last week I introduced the Friday 5 Random Style. Check out last weeks’ post for details.
One
Yesterday was my first Deep TMS treatment. I’m so excited about this… please work, please work, please work. So, if you don’t know what Deep TMS is, this is the website of the folks who built the machine I’m using, and here is an article about Deep TMS. I looked exactly like those folks in the pictures. If you want to see me in the helmet, I tweeted a pic yesterday. What does TMS feel like, you ask? Well, I’m glad you asked. Every 20 seconds for 20 minutes, the machine fires a 2 second burst of 36 magnetic pulses into your frontal lobe. Imagine Woody Woodpecker hanging off the side of your head and doing his thing on and off for 20 minutes a day, for 36 days. It’s startling and uncomfortable when it starts, but you get used to it and by the end of the first session, it’s not really that bad. 35 more to go. The success rate for this treatment is WAY better than meds.

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! Yay… #TeacherTwitter has been lit all week with folks talking about what administration has done or failed to do for teachers, but we need more than a bottle of water, an apple, and maybe some supplies for our rooms. Teachers are not okay folks, the last three years have been hell, the last decade has been tough, and to tell you the truth, things have been rough since Reagan was President. Testing has all but destroyed our public schools. Overwork and poor compensation burns teachers out and some estimates say that up to 50% of public school teachers are looking to get out before they are eligible to retire. Public education is dying and if we don’t do something about that, we will deserve the future the collapse of public ed creates.

For the first time in years, I’m looking forward to things happening in the future. I’ve been clinging to existence for years, but just this week, really just yesterday, I’m seeing light at the end of the tunnel and it’s not a train. My family has some outstanding travel plans for the summer and I can’t wait. I’ve not felt that way in a long time.
Four
My wife is the most amazing person I know. Period.
Five
The aforementioned wife and I just got a pair of folding bikes from Zizzo. This is an enormous deal because I’m on the chubby side of things and I love riding bikes. I used to ride, but it’s not safe to ride where I live. Folding bikes makes it so easy to just take them and go. We already hike all over the state of Ohio, and now we will ride as well. Maybe I can say bye to some of that chub.
